Family Olympics

I’m a little bit sad that the Olympics are over.  It has been so great watching all the amazing sports and hearing the inspirational stories of these athletes.  At least I can get back to going to bed at my normal time and not staying up so late!

This weekend we got together with a bunch of our running and triathlete buddies and had our own version of the Olympics.  Each family was responsible for putting together a fun game.  One consisted of blowing a little ball into a pocket while eating crackers.

Another game was eating a cookie off of your face without touching the cookie.  This was a complete riot to see people move their faces in an effort to get the cookie into their mouth!

Another game was filling a sponge with water, passing it overhead down the family line and squeezing it into a bucket until the bucket was full.  This was a great way to cool off!

Our family’s game consisted of rowing the canoe out into the lake, dropping off a swimmer who had to swim back to shore, then tag a runner who ran out and back, then everyone on the team had to throw rocks until 2 cups were knocked off a table.

A big thanks to my friend, Sherri, that suggested this fun day and set it all up.  We all had a blast and it was a terrific way to get the kids involved in a little healthy competition.  A great end to the summer since school starts today!

How was your weekend?  Are you going to miss the Olympics?
